Glaiza de Castro is the new ‘Aswang’ Posted: 29 Oct 2010 12:24 PM PDT Glaiza de Castro is the new ‘Aswang’: Do you still remember the Alma Moreno starrer ‘Aswang’? It is one of the films that made her a horror queen at one point in her career. The said movie will be revived by Regal Films and the new lead star of the new version is no other than Glaiza de Castro. If this pushes through, it will be Glaiza’s first lead starrer under Regal Films. She appeared in a number of movies under Lily Monteverde’s film outfit mostly playing supporting roles. Finally, the prominent movie producer saw her potential as a lead star. Most probably, her exposure in the GMA-7 Fantaserye ‘Grazilda’ really helped a lot. Glaiza is no longer a newbie in the movie scene. She is one of the few actresses that can do mainstream and independent films. She played the lead role in the Cinemalaya entry ‘Still Life’ and the upcoming flick ‘Rakenrol’, where she’s paired with Jason Abalos. Way to go, Glaiza! |

History of Halloween: Why Do We Celebrate Anyway? Posted: 29 Oct 2010 09:01 AM PDT History of Halloween: Why Do We Celebrate Anyway?: October is a special month to those who love to scare and be scared. The Halloween season falls on the month of October. It is the time wherein people gather in parties and events where they are dressed up in a creepy and scary manner. Halloween Parties, Horror Movie Marathons and Trick or Treats are in-demand during this season. Haven’t you wondered where this worth-shouting celebration originated? Also dubbed as All Saints’ eve, Halloween originated in the Celtic festival of Samhain. It is also known as the ‘Celtics New Year’. According to Wikipedia, The word Halloween is first attested in the 16th century and represents a Scottish variant of the fuller All-Hallows-Even (“evening”), that is, the night before All Hallows Day. Up through the early 20th century, the spelling “Hallowe’en” was frequently used, eliding the “v” and shortening the word. Although the phrase All Hallows is found in Old English (ealra hālgena mæssedæg, mass-day of all saints), All-Hallows-Even is itself not attested until 1556. Some of the most common activities during Halloween include Trick or Treat, Costume Parties, Apple Bobbing, Divination and Ghost Storytelling. The most popular symbols of Halloween include the Jack-O-Lantern (Hello, Pumpkin!), the Skeleton and the Witches. Are you ready for the Halloween Season? For sure, those who are spearheading the celebrations are searching for Halloween Recipes, Costume Ideas, Games and many, many more! |
